If you are a wine lover, you will perhaps be familiar with the process involved in picking out a fine wine. However, picking it out is only the first step. If you wish to store it, you need to make sure that you do this correctly, otherwise the quality of your chosen wine may be affected.
There are few simple tricks to follow to store your wine successfully:
1. Choose a dark, dry place in which to store your wine. If it is directly exposed to light, this could result in it having an unpleasant smell.
2. Store the bottle on its side. This is necessary for the cork to remain moist, which will ensure easier removal.
3. Make sure it is stored at a good temperature before serving. White wines are best served cool, so put white wine in the fridge for at least 48 hours before serving to ensure optimum flavour. While many people think that red wine should be stored at room temperature, one must bear in mind that room temperature is approximately 18 °C, comparably cooler to most average climates.
4. If possible, do not transport the wine frequently or shake it.
5. Store your wine away from anything that emits a powerful smell, as smells can be transmitted from one product to another. You don’t want your fine wine to end up tasting of bananas!
